Revisiting The Scene Of His Ever-Popular 1899 Painting “Girls On The Bridge”, Edvard Munch Turned A Fairly Straightforward Naturalistic Landscape Into A Complex Layered Composition. It’S An Image Ripe With Dichotomies. The Symmetry Of The Women Standing Together Contrasts Against The Assymetrical Layout Of The Image, Emphasized By The Leading Line Of The Pier’S Railing. That Line Guides The Eye From The Side Of The Eye Towards The Women Before Proceeding Onward With The Assistance Of The Uphill Road. After Venturing Further Into The Background, Munch Shows Us The Interplay Of Manmade Construction With Nature. While The Women Are On The Right, The Landscape Is On The Left. The Large House Sits Behind The Hedgerow And Tree(S), Which In Turn Sits Behind The Short White Wall. That And The House On The Far Left Edge Are In Front Of The Sky, But Behind The Sloping Shoreline And Placid Water. Each Element Weaves In And Out Of The Others, Not Unlike The Arcing Road. Munch’S Vivid Color Palette, Rich Blacks, And Expressive Brushstrokes Have Been Recreated Here In Oil On Canvas In A Fantastic Reproduction That Looks Stunning When Placed In One Of Our Custom Frames.
