The Smoker By Juan Gris In The Museo Nacional Thyssen Bornemisza Collection Was Originally Painted In September Of 1913. It Is Well Documented That Gris Spent Much Of His Time In August To October Of 1913 In The French Pyrenees, Known As The Mecca Of Cubism. During This Time Gris Spent A Few Days With Picasso. Fragmenting The Head Into Different Parts And Arranging Them Into A Geometric Display Is Thought To Be Influenced Directly By Picasso’S Heads Painting.
