In The Province #7 Was Painted By Charles Demuth In 1920. The Scene Depicts The Spire Of The Church That Sat Behind Demuth’S House In His Home Town, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Demuth Painted In A Style Called Precisionism, Which Was Inspired By The Movements Of Cubism And Futurism. Cubism Was A Movement That Used Broken Geometric Shapes To Create Images And Used Flat Color With Little Shading. Futurism Focused On Modern Technology And Industrialization To Use As The Subject. Demuth Used Aspects Of Both In His Paintings. In The Provence #7 Is A Perfect Example Of His Style. With Harsh Lines Streaking Through The Painting, The Image Of The Spire Almost Becomes Shattered, As If We Were Looking At It Through A Pane Of Broken Glass. The Simplicity Of The Color Palette With Its Soft Whites, Greys And Deep Reds, Gives The Painting A Still, Weightless Aura.
